Barber Dam Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation work included removal of the sluiceway, drilling and installing rock anchors, as well as forming and placing the new concrete section of the spillway. Challenges: In-river construction (1) Diverting the river: Initial work was completed during winter months when water levels were lower. A cofferdam was installed within the river above the dam with geo bags built up down the middle of the dam to provide a barrier during construction. (2) Providing access to the north end of the dam: A temporary bridge was constructed using rail car beds crossing the power house river outlet to provide access to the site for equipment/ existing material removal/new material.
